shift
verb: move or cause to move from one place to another (esp. over a small distance).
noun: a slight change in position, direction, or tendency.
X is a professional translator, and a writer too. Some years ago X froze up. She stood still at the edge of something, due to fear, or due to a lack of instruments or words, or due to something else, it’s not so important finding a reason. and she didn’t write or work anymore.
but this is the remote past, and it can’t be photographed.
then, she decided to make a move, to take a step beyond the threshold, even if sometimes she came back in the background. and it doesn’t matter if the step she took meant losing pieces in order to forget, remember, gather or look for something. and it doesn’t even matter if all seems made of fragments. or if all seems difficult.
what really matters now is that she is aware of being able to direct her own steps wherever she wants to go to any desired destination.
